Smit Orchards is located in Linden, California, about 30 minutes east of Stockton Ca., on your way through the foothills going towards Lake Tahoe. Smit Orchards was established in 1969 by the Smit Family. John Smit immigrated from the Netherlands to Northern California in hopes of starting a dairy. In America, he met his bride, Clazien, also from the Netherlands and they both established a dairy ranch.

After primarily raising cows John Smit soon got wind of a new apple that would be conducive to grow in the region, the Fuji apple. They proceeded to transform the property from pasture lands to rows and rows of fruit trees. No one really knew how good these apples would taste. People are no longer guessing.

The Smit Family continued to add a wide range of apples, white and yellow flesh peaches and nectarines, pluots, apricots, apriums, table grapes and cherries to their orchards.

Smit Orchards has been successful thus far primarily due to their success in selling their certified products in the California Department of Food and Agricultures sponsored program of "Certified Farmers Markets'". Presently, Smit Orchards attends a variety of these markets around the state. From the moment they began selling directly to the public, demand and excitement for their products took center stage.

Smit Orchards now has expanded its capacity to serve people who seek the quality and experience of true "Farmers Market" produce, which is now available on their online store. However, they are still committed to the same growing practices that have made them a champion of high quality tree fruit for many years.

This family still manages and oversees the farm, from planting the seed to putting the final bow on every fresh fruit gift that is sent!
